Packing Essentials: Carry On Must Haves
I am a chronic last minute packer, so anything that helps me fit more, stay organized and actually find what I packed is a win. I’ve learned that having the right organization makes just as much of a difference as what goes inside your suitcase – especially when I’m trying to avoid digging through everything the second I get to my destination.
How I Pack & Keep My Suitcase Organized
When I get to my destination, I usually unpack right away, so I try to pack in a way that makes part as easy as possible. I roll most of my clothes becasue it helps me fit more without everything feeling crammed, and I use compression packing cubes to keep outfits and categories separated while saving space.
I also keep shoes in individual shoe bags, chargers and cords (tech/electronics) in a small cable organizer, and toiletries together in a hanging toiletry bag so everything has its own place and is easy to grab once I arrive. I keep smaller accessories in a travel jewelry organizer so necklaces, earrings, and other little pieces stay together instead of getting tangled or lost. One little packing tip: I always wear as much jewelry (especially my everyday stuff, but also if I can incorporate anything else) on travel days so there’s fewer pieces to pack. This is my favorite organizer because of the individual compartments that keep pieces separated instead of piled together. It also has a dedicated spots for necklaces, rings, and earrings, which makes it easier to quickly grab exactly what I want when I am getting ready.
One of my favorite finds is this travel laundry bag because it’s waterproof, which is so helpful if you’re coming home with wet baithing suits or anything damp from the trip. It also helps keep dirty clothes and odors separate from everything else, and the compression design helps it take up less room in your suitcase on the way home.
In Flight Essentials You’ll Actually Use
There are the obvious things we all bring on a flight – headphones, a charger, maybe a book and a snack – and then there the little things that make you wonder how you’ve ever traveled without them. And since we can’t ALWAYS be in first class with champagne being handed to us the entire flight, I’m all for anything that makes the flight a bit more comfortable. I’ve found some seriously smart travel finds that help with everything from dead phones and dry airplane air to extra tray space and that not-so-fresh feeling after a long flight. These are practical, easy to pack, and will probably blow your mind.
Cosmetics I Actually Travel With
When traveling, there are certain items I refuse to bury in my suitcase because I know I’ll not only want some of them, but more than likely need something. These are the little beauty and personal-care essentials I keep within reach to stay hydrated, fresh and somewhat human after hours of being in a car or sitting in the “airplane air”. Think of it as your mini travel kit or something like “I just got off the plane kit” all in one.
- Desitin – Not glamorous, but hear me out. A lifesaver for unexpected chafing or irritation on long, hot travel days.
- AESTURA Milky Spray – A quick hit of hydration when airplane air starts making my skin feel dry and tight.
- Dry Mouth Tablets – Because airplane air + hours of traveling somehow equals the driest mouth imaginable.
- Lip Gloss/Balm – An obvious one. Hydrated lips and a little gloss instantly make me feel put together.
- Hydrating Face Stick – Swipe-on moisture without touching your face or completely disrupting your makeup.
- Vaseline – Tiny, cheap and useful for everything from painfully dry lips to dry patches and cuticles.
- TUMS – These are a must. After eating food in the airport and while traveling, you never know when the heartburn will hit.
- Lumify Eye Drops – For making tired, red travel eyes look a lot more awake.
- SPF – Important when sitting by a window or heading outside after landing (should be wearing daily already)!!!
- E.L.F. Glass Stick – My little trick for bringing some life and glow back to makeup (or no makeup).
- Eye Patches – Will literally make you feel like a new person and perfect towards the end of a long flight when a little hydration and depuffing is needed.
- Lens Wipes – I carry these everywhere for unwanted collected dust on my glasses and or sunglasses.
- Hand Sanitizer – A must.
- Hair Clips – Always good to have in case you want to put your hair up. These are the prefect size and easy to throw in any brand.
My Favorite Luggage and Travel Bags
I’ve gone through enough luggage over the years (more than I’d like to admit) to finally learn that this is one area where you really do get what you pay for. I love finding a good deal as much as anyone and can find a dupe for damn near anything, but it you travel often, quality luggage is one of those things worth investing in. Better luggage doesn’t just tend to hold up longer – it’s usually designed better on the inside too. Thoughtful compartments, smoother wheels, sturdy handles and bags that actually work together can make packing and getting through an airport much easier. You definetely don’t need the most expensive suitcase on the market, but I do think it’s worth spending a little more on pieces you won’t be replacing after a few trips (trust me on this, coming from a true expert who speaks from first hand knowledge…LOL). Below are a few brands and styles I personally own, love, or would consider when investing in luggage.

It also slides over the suitcase handle, (it’s universal so it can fit on any brand) which is a must for me when I’m moving through an airport.
